Eero Saarinen was born in Kirkkonummi, Finland, on August 20, 1910. His father, the architect Eliel Saarinen, and his family moved to Michigan in 1921. After receiving a B.F.A. in Architecture from Yale University in 1934, Saarinen joined his father's firm (Saarinen, Saarinen and Swanson) and began work as an architect. Joseph Warren Platner was born on June 18, 1919, in Baltimore. A designer and architect, he designed furniture representative of 1960s Modernism, as well as the offices for the Ford Foundation building and the original windows on the World Restaurant.
